A simple name search will find an artist, a sitter, a collector or a museum.
For exact searches, insert the phrase in " ".
A structured text search can be used to find a specific work: for example using the date of a sale and lot number
(e.g. "24.I.2002, Lot 54").
To search for a sitter using dates, use the format "1710 – 1774" with exact spaces and dash (it is simplest to
cut and paste this example into the box, changing the dates as required).
Standard catalogues raisonnés can be searched in the form Sani 1988, no. n; Sani 2007, no. n; B&W n;
L&R n; R&L n etc.
Accents and diacritical marks are ignored. The question mark (?)
may be used as a wildcard character for any one character, while the asterisk (*) may be used in place of any number of adjacent characters.
Note that the search is across columns, so adjacent words in snippets may not be consecutive in the searched article, and searches for
long phrases may overlook occurrences where the phrase is broken.
